Time to pop my head above the parapet me thinks and let you know how we are doing.  Trevor is gaining strength every day, doing great and looking so well you'd never know he had been ill at all!  Perhaps it was all those thoughtful and warm good wishes you sent us that did the trick, for which I thank you very, very much.  Me?  Well, if he ever scares me like that again, I'll box his ears.   :D

INSPIRED BY THE WORK OF CSABA MARKUS

I found Markus a difficult artist to emulate as he has such a distinct and original style.  After a whole afternoon of trying I almost gave up but this Botticelli beauty just wanted to be reborn.  I chose a similar colour scheme to what Csaba Markus favours and concentrated on the hair as he often does.

However, this one took on a life of its own and my Muse wanted to give Mary an updated hairstyle and who am I to argue.  I 'cut' a square from a texture and used the warp tool to morph it into a modern day bob of hair for one side of her face.  Then duplicated, reversed, warped and morphed to create the other side.  Much adding of elements, duplicating, layering and blending later she began to look like a modern day beauty and I was fairly happy with the result.  I finished with a soft textured filter from Photoshop.

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE

Our word for inspiration this week is NUMBERS and that got me thinking about how sometimes even counting on ONE is a difficult task ...... for a hungry little bird at least!  Hang on though ..... perhaps he ate this one up before I looked out of my window.    We shall never know!  :D

This week we are invited to create a SKINNY card for the Take a Word challenge and that reminded me of the other day when I heard music coming from my house as I came up the path with my shopping.  It sounded, for all the world,  as though there was some jazz jamming going on around my piano.  In my mind I saw trumpets and colour, cigarette smoke and happy dancers but ......... alas when I stepped through the door the piano lid was closed and the room was quiet.  Mmmmmmm I'll keep taking the tablets!

This week we are looking at the work of John Waterhouse at Digitalmania across at Flickr.  Now, in my opinion, Mr W just cannot be bettered so my inspiration was to create a little bit of 'something' using a section of his water nymphs.

This week, at Digitalmania across at Flickr,  Marie challenged us to take inspiration from the work of LK Perrella.  I liked her Faces and Folly series and created this by adapting, layering and blending a number of pictures by famous painters to create this Perrella inspired piece.  Perhaps you can recognise a bit of Van Gogh, a slice of Klimt and a touch of Botticelli hidden in this piece!

TAKE A WORD - ANGELS

This week Marie has chosen ANGELS as our word for inspiration at Take a Word and that reminded me of the strange sight I saw on my walk the other day.  It was raining cats and dogs and as I glanced up from beneath my umbrella I thought I saw a winged creature, soaked to the skin, and huddled before a small open fire.  I blinked and looked again but there was nothing there and I realized it must have been an angel OR perhaps indigestion!!!

THREE MUSES - TWO

Marie has chosen TWO as our theme this week at the Three Muses and that reminded me of the lovely breakfast I had this morning.  A boiled egg and soldiers .... TWO of them!  Yum.  Yum.

Thanks Marie for helping me realise that the term boiled egg and soldiers wouldn't be a universal one.  So may I explain, for those who didn't see Marie's explanation.  Here in the UK children eat a soft boiled egg with finger sized slices of either buttered bread or toast (soldiers) which they dip into their egg.

Truth is I never did grow up ...... and apologies if I offended anyone!

TAKE A WORD - MASCULINE

This week Marie has chosen MASCULINE as our word for inspiration and usually at this point I get a little twinkle in my eye and create something quirky.  This week, however, I was in a different kind of mood entirely and wanted to just play in Photoshop.

So starting with a greyscale image of John Lennon I found on the web, I extracted him from the background, increased the brightness by around 50% to remove detail and to increase the light within his face, added contrast by around 10% for clarity before experimenting in colour variations until I created this lovely purple blue.  Finally, I  added a sharpen edges filter to lift and highlight and accentuate his bone structure and his signature round rimmed glasses.  Ta daa!

A TRIP TO THE CIRCUS

The theme at the Three Muses this week is A TRIP TO THE CIRCUS and that made me think of clowns.  When I was a child I used to love to watch their antics at the circus but I know not everyone likes them.  So if you are one of those who finds them creepy be careful when you turn out the lights tonight .......... or the clowns might get you!   Heee heee.
