TAKE A WORD
SALUTE AUSTRALIA
This is so tongue in cheek I might never see it again (my tongue) .. and it's so cliched I'm almost but not quite embarrassed. It's my salute to Australia and to a certain person who keeps us out of trouble and off the streets by setting us a weekly theme at her Take a Word challenge.
Just the other day I was talking to Dame Edna and she told me that the colours in Oz are remarkable for their vibrancy and the sun almost always shines. There are kangeroos and little joeys everywhere and people swim and surf all the time, whilst keeping a weather eye out for the crocs, of course, and everyone says G'day and then they throw another prawn on the barbie. I was so inspired I set to work immediately and added a few extra special bits for Miss Ozstuff herself .. not least my 'Maude' postage stamp because I know how much she likes to make vintage art.
First and foremost credit to my daughter (as the body of Australia is made up from part of an 'aboriginal' painting she made one year for me for Mother's day), thanks to Honey Designs for the stamp template, and Efie from her blogspot freebies for most of the remainder. Thank you to Obsidian Dawn for the brushes.
Thank you for looking and taking the time to comment.
This is absolutely wonderful, Ann! Exploding with color and fun. And I didn't know there were flying pigs in Australia :).
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome Ann I adore the texture and all my favorite Aussie icons especially Dame Edna who has given me almost as many happy hours as Marie & the 3 Muses. Thanks and Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Ann. Nice salute for the country and for Marie.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous, Ann! I'm glad you explained the filling for the Australian map, I was wondering how in the world you did that. This is so full of fun, we don't care where your tongue is!!! We know it's nearly always in your cheek anyway!! BRAVO, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI know 'Queen Marie' will appreciate your 'Salute to Australia,' Ann, a fantastical piece - worth framing!
ReplyDelete(Perhaps i should explain my hat with the dangling corks!!)
So that's what Australia really looks like! I had no idea there were flying pigs, though. Great collage, Dame Edna and all.
ReplyDeleteApplause! Applause! A wonderful collage Ann. I love all the little extras, Dame Edna included! xx
